Tata Docomo the 6th largest operator by subscriber base has GSM spectrum in 18 of the 22 telecom circles. One of the prime metro circles where Docomo lacks spectrum is Delhi where it allows its subscribers to roam on Vodafone, Idea and Aircel networks.
Subscribers usually tend to opt for networks which have Pan India spectrum so they don’t have to pay extra while roaming on other operators networks. With Docomo till now this had been a disadvantage, but now through its new policy it has started to offer roam like home tariffs for its subscribers roaming in Delhi circle on Vodafone, Idea and Aircel networks.
Under this offer, subscribers roaming on partner networks in Delhi circle will be able to make outgoing off-net calls at 1paisa per second and incoming calls and SMS will be completely free. Data packs applicable in the home circle will also be applicable while roaming in Delhi at no extra cost.
With this offering, Docomo is preparing itself to walk shoulder to shoulder with other Pan India networks. It is also noteworthy that Tata group which is being forced to buy back the stake owned by Japanese counterpart Docomo and which was once on the table open for mergers and acquisitions has now decided to re-invest in the sinking debt-ridden business by bidding for spectrum in the upcoming auctions.
