Reliance Jio's new prepaid plans are now live across the country and the company did not add any more plans besides the ones which were revealed already. The best part is the telco did not remove Rs 251 4G data voucher, which is one of the best-prepaid plans offered by the company so far. For the unaware, Reliance Jio is now providing just All-in-One prepaid plans to the customers which ship with Jio-to-Jio unlimited voice calling and also comes with FUP limit on non-Jio voice calls. Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea also announced new plans with increased prices, but it's good to see the telcos not revising data-only plans. For example, Bharti Airtel is still providing the Rs 98 data pack offering 6GB data on top of the current pack's data benefit for 28 days. Even Vodafone Idea has a similarly priced data pack under Rs 100 that offers 6GB data benefit for 28 days.
Reliance Jio Rs 251 Data Voucher: The Go-To Data Pack for the Prepaid Users
After the price hike, Reliance Jio is offering three 2GB daily data packs similar to the Rs 251 data voucher. The company has Rs 249 combo pack that offers 2GB daily data, 100 SMSes per day, unlimited Jio-to-Jio voice calling and 1,000 non-Jio minutes for 28 days. On the other hand, there's a Rs 444 All-in-One recharge which offers the same benefits of Rs 249 plan, but for 56 days.
Coming back to the Rs 251 data voucher from Reliance Jio, it provides a user 2GB data per day for a period of 51 days. Yes, you heard it right. Jio prepaid users will get 102GB of 4G data for 51 days at Rs 251, whereas the same data benefit with an unlimited combo pack costs Rs 444 for 56 days.
Clearly, the Rs 251 data voucher is the go-to choice for the prepaid users right now, especially after the price hike. Do make a note that it's a data voucher from the company as other benefits like voice calling and SMSes are not bundled with this pack.
Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea Did Not Revise Data Packs Too
Not only Reliance Jio but incumbents Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea too also did not revise their data packs. Both Airtel and Vodafone Idea are currently shipping data only packs of Rs 48 and Rs 98 with 3GB and 6GB data benefit respectively.
As for Reliance Jio, it has a total of five 4G data vouchers including the Rs 251 one. Other data vouchers from Reliance Jio are Rs 11, Rs 21, 51 and Rs 101, which ship with 400MB, 1GB, 3GB and 6GB data benefit respectively. Reliance Jio also has another advantage as the 4G data vouchers validity will be of the existing pack's validity.
For example, if you're on a Rs 444 recharge that provides benefits for 56 days, then the validity of Rs 101 4G data voucher, if activated on top of the Rs 444 plan, will be 56 days only.
Reliance Jio Stills Holds an Edge Over Incumbent Telcos With New Plans
The pricing war began when Reliance Jio entered the Indian market way back in 2016. At the start of 2018, Reliance Jio introduced new tariff plans for prepaid customers which ushered in a new data era. Even after the new tariff plans, Reliance Jio is holding an edge over other telcos, thanks to 15-20% cheaper prepaid plans.
Nevertheless, the prepaid plans are now very limited compared to what telcos used to offer in the past which will not impress a lot of consumers. Keeping the 4G data vouchers aside, Reliance Jio is providing just 11 prepaid plans ranging from Rs 129 to Rs 2,199.
