Reliance Jio Eyes Massive Share of Home Broadband Market With Triple Play Plan and Other Offerings

Just like Reliance Jio entered the telecom space with a bang in 2016, the telco is once again ready to launch a new service called the Reliance Jio GigaFiber

Highlights
  • Reliance Jio GigaFiber will be operating a triple play plan providing all 3 services - DTH, landline and broadband
  • The rumoured price of the service is Rs 600 per month

The Mukesh Ambani led telecom operator Reliance Jio has created a massive hype in the country about the launch of the Reliance Jio GigaFiber. The launch of this new service by the operator would be a big one as it has already hinted and we also know that the rollout of this new service would also resemble the rollout of Reliance Jio itself which attacked the market with extra cheap data tariff options prices. The new GigaFiber service has been named as a versatile service as it will also accompany other services like GigaTV in select areas. With so much information out there, it Is easy to get confused and hence we have brought to you the facts which you need to know about the rollout of Reliance Jio GigaFiber.

Reliance Jio to Make a Dent in the Broadband Market

Firstly, it is worth noting that with the launch of this new service, Reliance Jio wants to gain a monopoly over the market which remains untouched by till now. Currently, Jio already dominates the wireless broadband segment, and with GigaFiber, the telco will be on the path of becoming a massive wired broadband service provider too. The launch of this new service is also expected to be a grand one, and GigaFiber is likely to steal the limelight from a lot of other service providers.

Currently, to get a Reliance Jio GigaFiber subscription in the areas where it is available for preview testing, the subscribers are paying Rs 4,500 for the security deposit. After this amount, the monthly rental of the subscriber is waived off, and for this much, the subscribers are getting 100GB data per month, and in case the subscriber exhausts this data, Reliance Jio also ships extra free data vouchers which will push the data offering of the box to 1,100GB instead of merely 100GB.

Reliance Jio Triple Play Plan Details

While there has been no solid report about the launch of a particular plan under the banner of Reliance Jio GigaFiber, we have seen the telco testing a new kind of plan which could be its unique proposition in the Indian broadband market, and with we are talking about the – Triple Play Plan.

This plan from Reliance Jio GigaFiber will bundle DTH, broadband and a landline connection into a single bill and will avail all the three services under the same banner at the same place. The Triple Play Plan will depend on the broadband connection for facilitating the TV, thus tapping in on your 100GB data offering. Besides this, Reliance Jio will offer the Home TV setup which will likely provide 600 channels to the subscribers over the IPTV (Internet Protocol TV) to relay TV channels, unlike the conventional DTH services. Also, there isn’t any confirmed word on the pricing of this service, but it is rumoured that it will be priced at Rs 600 per month.

I was actually waiting for JioFiber GiGaTv . JioFiber is available in my society for almost a year. I wont wait for its launch because my TV bill has already been lowered by TRAI rule. Previously I was very anxious for there launch, but sadly they are taking hell lot of time. They should have launched JioFiber +GigaTv together.

Guys, They want to launch it at PAN INDIA level(to some extent). That’s not easy task. So they need time. There are lot of hurdles. Tests/ Trials are already being done in Tier 1 cities. So relax & ( stay tuned to Telecom Talk for updated news regarding Jio Fiber haha…). Even R-Jio launched their 4G services 6 years later after acquiring license in 2010. In FTTH case, this is really gonna take more time.
I live in a village area and expecting that Giga fiber will be serviceable here in near future. (As cables were laid down a year ago)

Jio is purposely delaying the launch of wired broadband to give time for its wireless broadband market to expand and not hamper the momentum of addition of new wireless subscribers. The reason behind it is simple, there is a limited bandwidth that the operator has available from the international subsea cables, currently all of this bandwidth is freely available for wireless network subscribers and Jio is allowing users to freely use 1.5 GB of data per day. Once it launches wired broadband and unlimited 100 Mbps connections, people will use it to stream HD videos on their big screens all… Read more »

It is really good.. nowadays it is not consistent. I am using jiofi. But when i download something, i get speed of 1 MB/sec (But i said it is not consistent…sometimes it is just 200-300KB/sec, especially in day time) During Off peak hours , upto 3MB/sec.
Interestingly, My Airtel 4G gives upto 5MB/ sec even in day time.
