Finally one of the most awaited announcements of the Reliance Jio Fibre services is here. At the Annual General Meeting of Jio’s parent company Reliance Industries, Mukesh Ambani announced the launch of Jio GigaFiber – Jio’s FTTH Home broadband solution. During the launch, the company also revealed that it would commence operations in 1,100 cities in the country. New users subscribing to Jio GigaFiber would get access to a router along with a GigaFiber STB (Set Top Box). Using the GigaFiber set-top box subscribers will be able to place calls to Giga TV devices or mobile users across India.
With this launch, Reliance Jio will easily be eyeing the target of becoming the world’s biggest greenfield fixed-line broadband service provider in the world. After going through a lot of testing in the metro cities, Reliance Jio is finally bringing the GigaFiber services to 1,100 towns. The connection will offer many more services apart from the ultra-fast 1 Gbps connection. It will enable users to connect VR headsets and view 360-degree content. Kiran Thomas, President, Reliance Industries Limited also boasted about the prowess of the new services which Reliance Jio will be offering.
Ambani informed that the registration for GigaFiber would commence on August 15 and they will be done entirely over MyJio app and the Jio official website (jio.com). It is also notable that Jio has decided that it would prioritise cities based on the response from each locale and how many users are registering from a particular city.
GigaTV, which will accompany the usual high-speed broadband services will bring on-board many features. It will also allow subscribers to use voice commands on a microphone-enabled TV remote to access Jio apps such as Jio TV, Jio Cinema, Jio TV Call. Isha Ambani who lead the launch of GigaFiber on stage remarked “You can call every other TV that is powered by Jio GigaFiber. You can also call a mobile or tablet connected to every network. Of course, the best experience will be on the Jio network.” She also commented on the broadband services which Reliance Jio would be offering, “Gone are the days of Mbps, now it will be all about Gbps.”
The Annual General Meeting was not only about launches. Mukesh Ambani also shared some facts and figures about the company’s growth during the event. He revealed that Reliance Jio has managed to garner 215 million active users in a short time span of 22 months.
