Mobile and smartwatch chipmaker, Qualcomm, today announced that its upcoming flagship mobile platform would feature a SoC built on the 7nm process. Furthermore, Qualcomm also revealed the 7nm SoC could be paired with Qualcomm Snapdragon X50 5G modem, which is already expected to be the first 5G-capable mobile platform for flagship smartphones and other mobile devices. Qualcomm has already begun sampling of the upcoming flagship mobile platform to multiple OEMs developing next-generation consumer devices. "The upcoming platform will transform industries, encourage new business models and improve the consumer experience as operators come online with 5G services later in 2018 and through 2019," said Qualcomm in a press release.
Smartphones With Qualcomm Next Generation Mobile Platform Coming in 2019
The company also confirmed that the devices with its next-generation mobile platform would be released in the first half of 2019. “We are very pleased to be working with OEMs, operators, infrastructure vendors, and standards bodies across the world, and are on track to help launch the first 5G mobile hotspots by the end of 2018, and smartphones using our next-generation mobile platform in the first half of 2019,” said Cristiano Amon, president, Qualcomm Incorporated.
“Qualcomm Technologies’ continued leadership in research and engineering allows for a future of increased innovation across multiple sectors as 5G connectivity becomes ubiquitous,” he further added.

Qualcomm to Reveal Full Details About the Platform in Q4 2018
The company also confirmed that it would be revealing the complete details of its upcoming flagship mobile platform in Q4 2018, same as how it did last year. Qualcomm introduced the Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform in Q4 2017, and the first devices were launched during the MWC 2018.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform Could Be the Name
While Qualcomm did not reveal the name of the upcoming mobile platform, it's expected to be termed as Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform, succeeding the current Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform.
