Within just eight months of launch, Oppo has launched two series of phones under the Reno lineup. The Oppo Reno and the Reno 2 series arrived within a span of just four months, and now, the company is already gearing up for the launch of Oppo Reno 3 series. In addition, we are already seeing the first wave of affordable 5G phones coming out to the market. Just a couple of days ago, Honor unveiled its V30 series of phones with 5G support and they are priced affordably. On December 10, Xiaomi will be launching the Redmi K30 as well, followed by the Oppo Reno 3 series launch in China. Early in 2020, Realme will also launch Realme X50 with 5G support. Brian Shen, Vice President and President of Global Marketing at Oppo, today announced that the upcoming Oppo Reno 3 Pro would offer dual-mode 5G and it will measure just 7.7mm in thickness.
Oppo Reno 3 Pro 5G: What We Know So Far
Oppo may launch the Reno 3 series next month in China and other countries, including India. Similar to the Redmi K30, one of the Oppo Reno 3 series phone will have dual-mode 5G support and it will be the Oppo Reno 3 Pro. Today, an official Oppo employee revealed the first looking of the upcoming Reno 3 Pro. As you can clearly see in the image, the Reno 3 Pro will offer a full-screen experience similar to the Oppo Reno and Reno 2 series which featured pop-up cameras on the top. Besides, he also teased the phone will feature a glass body with a thickness of just 7.7mm (excluding the camera lens). He also says the Reno 3 Pro 5G could be the thinnest dual-mode 5G phone in its price segment.
Right now, we don't have any information regarding the pricing of the Oppo Reno 3 Pro 5G. As for the rumours, they indicate the entire Reno 3 series of phones will have punch-hole displays. As you can clearly see in the image, Oppo smartly avoided showing the left top corner of the Reno 3 Pro 5G where the punch-hole is rumoured to be sitting. An earlier leaked of the Reno 3 also pointed out that the hole cutout will be on the top left corner.
Other rumoured specs of the Reno 3 Pro 5G include 6.5-inch AMOLED display with 20:9 aspect ratio and 90Hz refresh rate, Qualcomm Snapdragon 735 SoC, in-display fingerprint scanner, quad-camera setup with 60MP Sony IMX686 lens, 32MP selfie shooter, 4500mAh battery and a 30W fast charging with VOOC 4.0. The specs of the Reno 3 Pro 5G are on the decent side, but it will be interesting to see how the company prices it in China.
The Era of Affordable 5G Phones Seems to Have Started
Chinese smartphone brands are preparing to launch 5G phones left, right and centre. It all started with the Honor V30 and V30 Pro smartphones which feature the flagship Kirin 990 5G SoC and they're priced affordably starting 3,299 Yuan. On December 10, Xiaomi will be launching the Redmi K30 and the rumoured price of this phone is 1,999 Yuan in China. Now, Oppo teased the Oppo Reno 3 Pro 5G with dual-mode 5G support and an affordable price tag.
Vivo is also preparing the Vivo X30 series of phones with the same dual-mode 5G support and it could be priced under 2,999 Yuan itself. While these 5G phones may never reach the Indian market, it's good to see companies launching affordable 5G phones in other countries at least.
