Chinese smartphone company, Oppo, today expanded its R series by adding Oppo R17 to the list. Oppo has launched the R17 in China today, and it's the first smartphone to sport the newly announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 Mobile Platform. Also, the R17 comes with a waterdrop notch, same as the Oppo F9. For the unaware, the Oppo R series is exclusive to China, and the company launches a new smartphone in the lineup for every five to six months, like how OnePlus is launching a standard version and T version. Other highlight features of the R17 include an in-display fingerprint scanner, up to 8GB of RAM and the 25MP AI-powered selfie shooter.

Oppo R17 Specifications and Features

The Oppo R17 is an upper mid-range smartphone in China. It flaunts a massive 6.4-inch Full HD+ display on the front, which carries a resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels, 19:9 aspect ratio and offers a 91.5% screen-to-body ratio. The R17 is also the first device to make use of the Corning Gorilla Glass 6 technology. At the heart of the phone, it has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 chipset, mated with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Oppo might launch the device in other configurations going forward, but for now, only one variant will be available.

This dual-SIM smartphone comes laden with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. Optics on the Oppo R17 include 16MP shooter on the rear with LED flash, a f/1.8 aperture which works in tandem with a 5MP depth sensor. Oppo R17 Pricing and Colour Options

Oppo confirmed the R17 would come in two colours options- Twilight Blue and Starry Purple. The phone can be picked up for 3499 Yuan (approx. Rs 35,500). The device will be available for purchase starting from August 30 in China, but it won't be launched in India though. Right now, Oppo is taking pre-orders for the handset in its homeland.

Oppo R17 is the First Smartphone With Snapdragon 670 SoC

Qualcomm recently announced the Snapdragon 670 chipset and the first smartphone to make use of it is the Oppo R17. The SD670 is a slightly downgraded version of the SD710 which was announced a few months ago. The Snapdragon 670 SoC offers all the features as the Snapdragon 710 SoC but comes with some downgrades, so that manufacturers can provide it in lower mid-range phones.

Oppo R17 Could Be the OnePlus 6T

This is an interesting stat. Every time Oppo launches a new R series smartphone OnePlus comes out with own device, and the same might continue this year too. The OnePlus 6T could be an Oppo R17 lookalike with the waterdrop notch. But OnePlus might stick with the physical fingerprint scanner on the rear. The OnePlus 6T is expected to launch sometime in November this year.
