Openreach Brings Fiber to 70 Percent of Kirklees Homes with GBP 42 Million Investment
UK-based telecommunications company Openreach said it has invested GBP 42 million to bring its Full Fibre broadband network to 70 percent of homes and businesses in Kirklees. As a result, the fibre network is now accessible in areas such as Batley, Cleckheaton, Dewsbury, Heckmondwike, Honley, Huddersfield, Kirkburton, Meltham, and Milnsbridge.

Wide Choice of Broadband Providers

Despite the rollout, only 23 percent of eligible households have upgraded to the service. Openreach said its network offers the UK's widest choice of broadband providers, including BT, Sky, TalkTalk, Vodafone, and Zen, giving customers plenty of options.

Openreach's Partnership Manager for Yorkshire and the Humber said: "This is a fantastic milestone to reach, but there's more to do. Our investment across the Kirklees area continues, and we're determined to deliver a great service that helps communities thrive, supports remote work, keeps people connected with loved ones, and creates new opportunities."

"Switching is easy and may even be cheaper than your current broadband package, but it's important to remember that upgrades don't happen automatically. Customers need to contact their broadband service provider and place an order to take advantage of the service," Openreach added.

Economic Benefits of Full Fibre

Openreach referenced a study by the Centre for Economics and Business Research (Cebr), which estimates that connecting everyone in Yorkshire and the Humber to Full Fibre could boost the local economy by GBP 3.3 billion. Openreach plans to continue its expansion, aiming to reach 25 million UK homes and businesses by 2026.
