Omantel, the telecom service provider in Oman, has entered into a multi-year strategic partnership with Airgain, a California-based wireless connectivity solutions provider, to enhance 5G coverage across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The rapid expansion of 5G, according to the companies, has brought new challenges for telecom operators, particularly in balancing cost-effectiveness with network performance.

Overcoming 5G Expansion Challenges in MENA
This collaboration aims to address key challenges in 5G expansion that traditional infrastructure solutions face, particularly in extending coverage to hard-to-reach areas such as remote locations, large indoor spaces, and urban areas with signal congestion.
Airgain's Lighthouse
Omantel states that its partnership with Airgain addresses these challenges through Airgain's Lighthouse, a smart network repeater. The repeater amplifies and extends 5G signals, ensuring connectivity in areas where coverage is traditionally weak or unavailable for both residential and commercial users.
New Approach to Network Infrastructure
Unlike conventional vendor-operator partnerships, Omantel and Airgain are collaborating on research, development, and innovation to create energy-efficient solutions specifically designed to meet the needs of the MENA region.
