HMD Global, the license holder of Nokia brand today confirmed that its Nokia 3 smartphone would join the Nokia Phone Beta Labs program very soon. Meaning, HMD will release the Android 8.0 Oreo beta update to the budget smartphone very soon. This news is confirmed by Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer at HMD Global on Twitter. "#Nokia3 Beta Labs right around the corner," he said.
The Nokia 3 is the only device under HMD's product portfolio with a MediaTek chipset. Earlier, HMD Global said the Nokia 3 would receive the Oreo update later than other phones because of the MediaTek chipset itself. Other Nokia smartphones including the Nokia 6 and Nokia 5 already received Oreo beta update nearly a month ago.
Sarvikas also confirmed that the entry-level smartphone, the Nokia 2 will receive Oreo update too, but it will directly receive the Android 8.1 Oreo with Android Go memory optimisations as the phone has just 1GB of RAM.
The Nokia 6 and Nokia 5 received Oreo beta update a month ago, and both the phones will receive stable update anytime in the next couple of weeks. While HMD promised the Oreo update for both the Nokia 6 and Nokia 5 by the end of 2017, they did not release it yet. Recently, a user of Nokia 6 asked about the same on Twitter and the company said that they want to make sure to give the best experience to the customers as they don't want to roll out the update just as they promised before optimising it.
HMD Global's flagship smartphone, the Nokia 8 just a couple of days ago received Android 8.1 Oreo Beta update and will soon receive the stable update as well. If you're waiting for the Oreo update to arrive on your Nokia 3, then it may not take too long. HMD may roll out the Oreo update for Nokia 3 in a month after starting the beta program.
