Motorola's first flagship smartphone for 2017 is here. The Lenovo subsidiary has announced the Moto Z2 Force at an event in New York moments ago. The Z2 Force will take on the flagship phones such as the Samsung Galaxy S8, LG G6, HTC U11, and OnePlus 5. And it carries a premium price tag.

Motorola has upped the ante with the Z2 Force, and it's also the brand's first dual camera smartphone. The Z2 Force, at the moment, has launched in the US, while the other countries launch is unknown for now. The US version of the Z2 Force is priced at $720, which dubs to Rs. 46,800, which surely is a premium price tag considering Motorola pricing strategy in the past.

The highlights of the phone include the Shattershied display, dual cameras, Moto Mod support, and of course, thinner form factor. Like last year's Moto Z Force, the Moto Z2 Force uses a 5.5-inch Quad HD panel, which also has a Shatterproof coating on top. This necessarily means that the display is unbreakable with day-to-day slip outs from our hand.

The Z2 Force also becomes the brand's first ever dual camera smartphone. Motorola has added two 12MP sensors at the back of the phone. One sensor captures RGB shots, while the other sensor captures dedicated Monochrome images. Furthermore, Motorola also included a portrait mode on the phone, which adds bokeh effect to the images, similar to the Apple iPhone 7 Plus. However, the 5MP front-facing camera is still a letdown in 2017.

Internally, the Z2 Force has top notch specs as well. The phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset, coupled with just 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The storage is not expandable though. The international variant of the Moto Z2 Force will ship with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, which is a welcome change from Motorola.

The Moto Z2 Force is probably the thinnest flagship of 2017 with a thickness of 6mm. And to achieve that, Motorola has trimmed the battery capacity to 2730mAh, from the 3500mAh seen in Moto Z Force, which is a huge downgrade. The phone also has support for Moto Mods, same as first generation Moto Z Phones.

Motorola also stated that the phone would receive Bluetooth 5.0 with the Android O update, but for now, the device has support for Bluetooth 4.2. And yes, the Moto Z2 Force doesn't have a 3.5mm headphone jack, much like the 2017 flagship phones from HTC and Xiaomi.

The phone runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat, but it will receive Android O upgrade at the earliest. Unfortunately, Motorola did not announce the Moto Z2 smartphone at the launch event, and even not given any glimpse of its existence as well. The device will be available in the US from August 10 across all the US carriers, unlike the Verizon exclusive Moto Z Force.
