Recently Apple hosted another event in the Brooklyn Academy of Music in Brooklyn, New York City and announced new products. The first of the many products to be announced in this event was the MacBook Air 2018. The new MacBook Air was a much-awaited laptop by Apple since it comes with a new design, improved features and retina display. Sleeker Design

The new MacBook Air 2018 comes with a wedge-shaped design as claimed by Apple and it is thinner, lighter and sturdier as compared to the last generation MacBook. As highlighted by Apple, this new laptop cuts down on 17% of volume and also comes off as 10% thinner. The weight of the laptop has also gone down to 1.24kg, making it 110 grams lighter as compared to the previous MacBook Air. Since Apple has used a new material to build this MacBook Air, it promises 50% less carbon footprint owing to the 100% recycled aluminium alloy designed by Apple.

Retina Display

Retina Display products have been Apple’s highly praised devices. However, MacBook Air buyers had to make do with lower resolutions until the last line-up, but with the new 2018 model, Apple has also brought the retina display to the MacBook Air as well. The new MacBook Air 2018 gets a 13.3-inch Retina display which renders 4 million pixels of resolution. If compared to the last MacBook Air, this new laptop offers 48% more colours on-screen.

New Touchpad and Keyboard

Apple’s laptops have been revered for their touchpads and extremely comfortable and precise keyboards, as such the new model of MacBook Air offers precisely that with an even better punch. Apple has fitted the MacBook Air 2018 with third generation Apple-designed keyboard which will provide more responsive and precise typing along with that, each key on the keyboard offers low power LED for proper illumination.

Apple has also improved the touchpad on this machine as it offers a 20% more surface area as compared to the last MacBook Air along with pressure sensing capabilities and haptic feedback. The touchpad has also been touted by Apple to be the industry’s best Force Touch trackpad, besides Apple has also claimed that this new touchpad is also much quieter than before.

Improved Performance and Audio

Since the Apple MacBook Air 2018 packs better hardware it is expected to deliver quite a punch when it comes to performance. The new MacBook Air packs the 8th-generation Intel Core i5 processor combined with Intel UHD Graphics and a faster 2,133 MHz RAM with up to 16GB capacity. Apple is also offering 1.5TB SSD on this laptop which is again 60% faster than the previous MacBook Air.

The new MacBook Air also ships better speakers which offer 25% better sound and twice the bass than the previous generation MacBook Air. The laptop also gets three rows of microphones to provide better sound quality during FaceTime and better Siri recognition. For connectivity, the MacBook Air 2018 offers two Thunderbolt 3 ports. As for the OS, the machine boots the latest MacOS Mojave out of the box.

TouchID and Overall Security

The new MacBook Air 2018 comes with Apple’s TouchID integration which finds its way on the keyboard. By the fingerprint scanner, users will also be able to make use of Apple Pay to make payments online. For better security, Apple uses the T2 Security Chip to keep the TouchID data safe. Not only that, but the T2 Secure chip also helps in securing the data used during the boot process along with data encryption for SSD. Inside the chip, there is also an always-on processor which is dedicatedly used for ‘Hey Siri’.

As for the pricing, the base model of the MacBook Air 2018 which comes with 8GB RAM and 128GB SSD will go for sale with a price tag of Rs 1,14,900 on November 7.
