Lumos Announces USD 230 Million Fiber-Optic Expansion in Ohio
Lumos, a fiber-optic internet and home Wi-Fi provider in the Mid-Atlantic, has announced a USD 230 million investment to expand its network into Ohio. The project will cover nearly 2,000 miles, bringing high-speed internet to homes and businesses in Mahoning and Trumbull Counties, Lumos said in a statement on Wednesday.

Expansion Overview

This expansion marks Lumos' first foray into Ohio and aims to bridge the digital divide in underserved areas. The initiative is expected to stimulate local economic growth and create job opportunities.

"This nearly quarter-billion-dollar investment in the Greater Youngstown community reflects our dedication to expanding our fast and reliable fiber internet to all communities, not just the big cities," said Lumos CEO Brian Stading.

"We're proud to be the first 100 percent fiber provider in the Mahoning Valley, bringing critical infrastructure to the area and helping to pave the way for economic growth," he added.

Upcoming Construction Timeline

This development marks Lumos' first expansion since its announcement of a joint venture with T-Mobile and EQT in April 2024. Lumos said construction is set to begin in late 2024, and residents will receive updates via mail once work begins.

American ISP Lumos provides fiber optic internet, home Wi-Fi, voice, and streaming services to over 300,000 homes and businesses across Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
