Jio is inching closer towards the commercially roll out of services, and may well start operations by September this year, if various media reports are to be believed. These reports said that Jio has almost completed the testing of its network and services, and the launch is imminent in the next two-three months.

A commercial launch means customers would be able to buy Jio SIM cards from all the small and big retail shops, and may well without a LYF device, which is a prerequisite to avail Jio service currently under the trial launch. Jio had earlier this month opened its high-speed 4G network for public in a number of metro cities by eliminating the need of showing a referral invite from RIL group employees to get a new connection along with a LYF smartphone.

The move came along with the launch of its newly launched website Jio.com, through which Jio has officially started providing invites for interested customers. Earlier the invites could only be sent by a Reliance Industries employee and was limited to maximum 10 invite per employee.

As a part of Jio-LYF preview offer, Jio 4G SIM cards offer three months of free unlimited data and 4500 minutes of voice calls. Jio is the first operator in India to use VoLTE, in fact Jio 4G network would be the largest VoLTE enabled 4G networks in the world.

Jio’s subscriber base has reportedly surged to 7 lakh due to the availability of 4G SIMs through LYF smartphones in the country.

The total usage of these 7 lakh subscribers was at around 13 million GB, which translates into 18.57 GB per user, as per the internal data accessed by IANS. An internal source told the wire service that Jio has surpassed the third leading operator in some circles in terms of cumulative data usage.
