Reliance Jio, India's largest telecom operator, has again added the most subscribers in the wireline category in May 2024. The data has been shared by the TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) in its monthly performance indicator report. Jio already has the largest pie of the market in the wireline segment, and at this growth rate, other companies will find it hard to get ahead of the Reliance-owned company. Apart from Jio, Bharti Airtel, Tata Teleservices, and Vodafone Idea (Vi) added new users in the wireline segment. Let's take a look at the data shared by the company.

Wireline Customer Addition by Jio, Airtel, and Vi
Reliance Jio added 0.37 million wireline users during May 2024. This is a great boost to the JioFiber brand in the country. At the same time, Bharti Airtel added 0.11 million wireline users, a decent growth for the Airtel Xstream Fiber brand. Tata Teleservices and Vodafone Idea (Vi) added 0.018 million and 0.012 million wireline users.
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) on the other hand lost 0.032 million customers. Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL), another state-owned telecom operator in the country, lost 0.01 million users. BSNL is losing customers both in wireless and wireline segments. This is because of poor branding and after-sales service from the state-run telecom company.

The private telecom operators are not only reaching new areas with their services but are also expanding to improve customer relations. BSNL on the other hand has not been able to modernise its technology infrastructure and has lost its number one rank in the wireline segment to Jio. Even Airtel surpassed BSNL to become the second-largest in the category. BSNL will have to do a lot of work to regain its lost market share in the future.
