India has Impressive Mobile Download Speeds, but Still Far Behind the Number One Country

The data comes directly from Ookla's global index, where the network intelligence company has mentioned India's median mobile download speed in the month of November to be 100.78 Mbps. While it is a great jump for India, compared to the UAE (United Arab Emirates), this figure is nothing. UAE's median mobile download speed stood at 441.89 Mbps.

Despite that, if you consider the scale of investments required in India for customers to get a decent mobile experience is multiple times higher than that in UAE. 100 Mbps is an impressive figure, as it essentially means the speed of a fiber broadband connection for many. Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel offering free 5G to consumers for the last two years has mostly enabled this figure. At the same time, Vi has been improving its 4G networks to ensure a better and faster experience for its customers. That has also likely contributed marginally to this figure. Lastly, BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) is also working on rolling out high-speed 4G networks.

BSNL has already commissioned several thousand 4G sites built on indigenous technology in different parts of the country.
