According to the latest report by sectoral regulator Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), India has 14.68 million Broadband subscribers as on July 2012.
India's total Broadband subscriber base has increased from 14.50 million at the end of June 2012 to 14.68 million at the end of July 2012, there by showing a monthly growth of 1.20%. The yearly growth in Broadband subscribers is 17.40% during the last one year (August 2011 to July 2012).
National telecom backbone Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has maintained pole position among all Broadband Service provider with 9.36 million subscribers and 63.7% market share,while Bharti Airtel comes in second with just 1.37 million subscribers and 9.3% market share. Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) which operates its services in just two circles (Mumbai/Delhi) has 1.08 million subscribers and 7.3% market share. In other ISPs You Broadband and Hathway has 0.66 million has 0.37 million Broadband subscribers.
According to TRAI report, as on 31st July 2012, there are 156 Internet Service Providers (ISPs) which are providing Broadband services in the country. Out of this only 114 ISPs have provided data for the month of July 2012 and out of above all ISPs just 10 ISPs constitute 93.60% of the total Broadband subscriber base.
