After trying tariff cuts to compete free data offers, the telecom operator Idea Cellular has made its motto clear through an advertisement “No FreeG. Idea 4G – Parking”. In the video advertisement, spotted on YouTube, Idea Cellular says ‘Free ki aadat mat daalo.. Isliye No FreeG, Idea 4G!”.
The visual shows the conversation between two friends in a car. One of them parks the car in a “claimed-to-be” free parking facility available; while the other, seated next to him, is downloading an HD movie using Idea 4G within seconds. The second guy makes the statement that Idea network is available to four lakhs people across India, spanning villages and towns. By the time the duo gets out of the car and crosses the road, the authorities remove the car parked in “free” parking facility for traffic trespass.
The advertisement indirectly seems to be hitting at the free data offers, saying ‘free’ facilities may not be ‘real’. Idea Cellular has uploaded the video on 19 January 2017 and is nearing 5K views. It is unclear if this ad is a part of any campaign planned.
