Flipkart Plus Explained

Unlike Amazon Prime membership which is a fee-based program for priority delivery and other offers, Flipkart Plus is a no-cost program. Instead, this loyalty program is going to be based on a points system wherein Flipkart customers will be able to enjoy benefits like free fast delivery, early exclusive access in Flipkart sales in addition to priority customer support from Flipkart support team. The points which the customers will earn will be in the form of Flipkart Plus coins, and the users will be able to redeem these coins in exchange of offers on food, beverages, entertainment, travel etc.

How to Become a Flipkart Plus Member

To become a Flipkart Plus member, you won’t have to do a particular sign up on the website. Instead, you will have to earn 50 Flipkart Plus coins to be eligible for Flipkart Plus membership. As Flipkart has highlighted on their website, purchase of Rs 250 will get one coin to the buyers, and on a single order, they will be able to earn a maximum of 10 coins. Further, when the Flipkart customers have 50 coins in their account, they will be able to exchange them for a Flipkart Plus membership. The membership will avail early sale access, faster delivery times, more discounts, offers on food, travel, shopping and premium customer support.

In addition to the benefits mentioned above, customers will be eligible for a discount of Rs 400 on flight bookings through ixigo, they will also get a 1+1 beverage discount on Chain Point. There will be a Rs 100 discount on BookMyShow and the eligibility to get a free beverage on order of Rs 449 in Cafe Coffee Day. Flipkart will also be giving out Rs 1000 vouchers to select customers. More benefits will include MakeMyTrip gift card, and an annual subscription for Hotstar premium will be available in exchange for 50 coins.

Competition with Amazon’s Prime Membership

It is no surprise that Flipkart’s new loyalty program is a take on Amazon’s Prime membership scheme. However, it is worth noting that this is not the first time that Flipkart has rolled out a loyalty program, the last time Flipkart decided to roll out a scheme like this it couldn’t take off because of cold advertising and marketing.

In terms of benefits and offers Amazon and Flipkart are offering almost the same advantages to their customers, and their goal from these memberships remain the same as well. Flipkart is now focusing on retaining its customer on the platform through the use of this membership plan and also wants to boost up sales in the country. Amazon's headstart with Prime has given it an upper hand as compared to Flipkart, however, if things go well Flipkart might as well surpass Amazon in this regard.
