Data center firm EcoDataCenter has acquired a 20-acre site in Borlange, Sweden, formerly a paper mill, to expand its AI infrastructure capabilities in the Nordics. The site will host a data center campus with at least 240 MW of power capacity. The growing demand for AI solutions has driven this expansion, with available land and power making it an ideal location for high-performance computing, the company announced last week.

EcoDataCenter Expands AI Infrastructure
EcoDataCenter said this acquisition complements its existing facilities in nearby Falun. Borlange is around 20 kilometres from Falun, where the company already operates a data center.
“We are in the process of establishing ourselves as a leading company in AI infrastructure and data center design. Our services and expertise are in high demand. Borlange is a critical asset for meeting market needs and continuing to scale the company," EcoDataCenter said.
Construction Plans
Construction will begin once the necessary permits are secured, with the first data centers expected to be operational by 2027. The site's proximity to the existing facilities will enable EcoDataCenter to leverage its established partner ecosystem, ensuring local job creation, the company explained.

"This location is ideal for us. We can utilise the same partner ecosystem we have established in the region and connect the two sites, offering clients the potential to build some of the world's largest computing clusters," EcoDataCenter added.
Through this new facility, EcoDataCenter aims to enhance Sweden's AI infrastructure while creating local jobs and strengthening regional partnerships.
