Digicel Suriname has completed the transition of all data traffic to the new Deep Blue One submarine cable. Digicel's Deep Blue One Subsea Fibre Cable went live in June 2024, according to the company. However, the cable landing station in Suriname only became operational at the beginning of this month, on August 2, as reported by BNamericas.

Suriname Cable Landing Station
The station in Suriname is one of five landing stations planned for the USD 80 million submarine cable. The other stations are in Trinidad, Tobago, Guyana, and French Guiana. Deep Blue One spans 1,900 km of submarine cable and has a data capacity of 25 terabits.
CEO of Digicel Suriname, said: "That is 200 times more data capacity than what is currently used in Suriname. Deep Blue One will last at least 30 years."
Fiber Optic Rollout
Digicel Suriname also announced the rollout of fiber optics to strengthen its nationwide network and improve mobile 4G services, aiming to deliver faster and more reliable connectivity, the report said.

At the time of the announcement in June, Digicel reported that the international submarine capacity of the Deep Blue One cable would significantly boost connectivity across the Caribbean and South America, particularly benefiting French Guiana, Suriname, Guyana, and Trinidad and Tobago.
