After parting ways with LeEco, Coolpad is now looking to get back to the basics. The Chinese company has now launched a new smartphone in its homeland China under its Cool series, dubbed as the Coolpad Cool 2. Besides feature mediocre specifications, the Cool 2 smartphone's highlight is the waterproof properties. Yes, Coolpad stated that the all-new Cool 2 is a waterproof device, but the company did not reveal the certification though. The device will be limited to the Chinese market as of now, but Coolpad might launch it in India as well very soon because the brand has recently resumed its operations with two affordable smartphones.
The Coolpad Cool 2 comes with all the modern features such as the 18:9 display, gorgeous design and dual rear cameras. But being an entry-level device, it features mediocre hardware, and Coolpad chose to go with a MediaTek processor. The Cool 2 comes with a 5.7-inch display with a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels and 2.5D curved glass on top. The phone is powered by the 64-bit MediaTek MT6750 processor, paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. There's a microSD card slot for storage expansion and the graphics in the phone will be taken care by the Mali T-860 GPU.
The device sports unimetal body and the rear has two cameras with an iPhone X-esque camera module design. Coolpad has added a 13MP primary sensor to the back and a 0.3MP secondary sensor. Up front, we get an 8MP selfie shooter. The smartphones measures 9.0mm in thickness and weighs around 160grams.
It runs on Android 7.0 Nougat with a custom skin laid on top. Connectivity options in the smartphone include 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS and a micro USB port. The device is fuelled by a 3200mAh battery, and Coolpad did not mention the presence of fast charging in the smartphone.
The device in various colour options and the antenna bands on the top and bottom come with a different colour accent. For example, in the black colour variant, the antenna bands are gold coloured, while in the Blue colour option, the antenna bands are black coloured. The smartphone also comes with a fingerprint sensor which is placed at the back. Coolpad seems to have taken the design cues from the Transsion Holdings brand such as the Tecno and Infinix because the phone looks the same as Tecno Camon i Air and Infinix Hot S3. Coolpad is yet to reveal the pricing details of the Cool 2 though.
