CelcomDigi Completes First Two Consolidated Network Clusters in East Malaysia

Malaysian telecommunications service provider CelcomDigi Berhad (CelcomDigi) has announced the completion of the first two consolidated network clusters in Tuaran and Menggatal, Sabah. According to the company, 50 Celcom and Digi network sites have been efficiently consolidated into 108 sites across Tuaran and Menggatal.

Consolidation of Network Sites

This milestone marks a significant advancement in CelcomDigi’s ongoing network integration and modernization exercise, which aims to deliver an enhanced digital experience to its customers. CelcomDigi stated that this consolidation had enabled improved download throughput, higher data traffic capacity, and wider LTE coverage and quality in the respective areas, significantly benefiting customers.

Malaysia’s digital landscape

CelcomDigi is enhancing Malaysia’s digital landscape through a significant network deployment project, integrating and modernizing the largest 4G network with advanced LTE and 5G technologies, as reported by TelecomTalk. This initiative covers 18,000 sites and is vital to the company’s future vision following the successful merger of Celcom and Digi in December 2022.

Streamlined Network Upgrades

CelcomDigi is undertaking the integration and modernization process in clusters to facilitate seamless network upgrades, focusing on expanding coverage and capacity while incorporating the latest 4G and 5G-ready technologies into existing sites. Additionally, the telco is streamlining overlapping sites to eliminate duplication, ensuring maximum efficiency.

CelcomDigi stated that it has already completed integration work in 19 clusters across different regions of Malaysia, including Central, Northern, Southern, Eastern, and East Malaysia. The company stated that despite the scale of the project, it has managed to carry out upgrades with minimal disruption to its customers.
