bsnl makes yet another strong in house

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), the state-run com operator, has made yet another strong in-house move to boost business. The telecom operator faced a major issue when its contract with a private firm for the Sanchar Aadhaar app expired. One thing which the Indian government has been trying to do for a long time is make sure BSNL makes a comeback. The comeback of the telco will be necessary for the industry in general as it would allow the users to get more than just select few private telcos to choose from. The government can offer cheaper services with BSNL, which can be a way for the users to keep their secondary SIM active.

In a recent development, the state-run telecom operator annoounced that it has developed the 'Sanchar Mitra' app, marking a key step in restoring and streamlining new customer onboarding services. Due to the contract expiry with a private firm, the state-run telco couldn't onboard new customers with the Sanchar Aadhar app. Now, the company has developed its own in-house app which can be used by the BSNL retailers and franchisees to digitally verify the customer.

When the contract with the private firm expired, BSNL couldn't onboard new customers for a signficant time, resulting in a loss for the company. Now, with its own platform, the company doesn't need to depend on anyone to verify and onboard new users. This makes the telco more self-reliant, and robust for future growth. It also sets an example for other Indian companies to become more self-reliant for important processes. BSNL has been adding new active users at a slow rate, but it is still a good sign that it is doing so.
