Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), a state-run Indian telecom operator added 67,430 users in a single month in the Assam circle. This is a huge number for the telecom operator in Assam. A few days back, BSNL Andhra Pradesh said that it added 1 lakh connections in 20 days, again a fast addition of new subscribers. This development comes even as the 4G rollout of BSNL hasn't been completed. This is likely due to users switching their secondary SIM cards to BSNL. However, it will still be worth the wait to see the monthly performance data of BSNL in the month of July 2024. Has the telecom operator finally managed to add new users? That is soon going to change as BSNL is deploying a homegrown 4G stack provided by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) led consortium that also includes companies such as Tejas Networks and Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DoT). BSNL has yet to comment on how many sites it has deployed and in which parts. However the information that the company shared a few weeks back was that it completed the deployment of 1000 homegrown 4G sites under the saturation project. The 4G saturation project is an initiative from the government to ensure that even the backward and rural areas can benefit from the presence of high-speed mobile networks the way people living in urban cities do.
