Apple iPhones are with us for ten years now, and as the iPhone enters the 10th year of its existence in India, it's going to hit a massive milestone. Apple will cross 10 million users milestone in India this year, and it will be the 11th brand to achieve this feat in the country. Various Apple models (including variants) are being used by users across the country. However, it took a while for the company to achieve this feat, and there are many reasons for the delay in achievement- one of them will be the expensive price tag.
However, Apple will be achieving this milestone irrespective of the Make in India strategy as the company manages to ship 3 million devices every year. As per CMR India's analysis, at the end of 2017, there were 8.9 million iPhones users in India, and with an addition of estimated 3 million, it would surpass the 10 million mark even after discounting the switch within the brand.
However, Apple might achieve the feat much earlier than expected, if it decides to go aggressive with its assembly plans in India. Apple has been betting big on its manufacturing of iPhones in India for quite some time, and it has been assembling the cheaper iPhone SE in India since last year. And it the Cupertino giant decides to ramp up the Make in India program, it might achieve the 10 million mark by mid-2018 itself.
As stated, Apple is the 11th brand in India to cross 10 million users, and there are already ten brands having surpassed this milestone. Samsung has a massive user base of 120 million users at the of 2017 as per CMR India, and brands such as Xiaomi are shipping millions of phones in a single quarter.
At the end of 2017, Xiaomi has over 28 million smartphone users, but the company' success comes from its smartphones priced below Rs 10,000 and Rs 15,000. But Apple is achieving 10 million users in the flagship category, and CMR India says that Apple received overwhelming love from Indians like how it received in the US and European markets.
