Apple has been leading in smartphone exports in terms of value in India. In November 2024, India exported smartphones whose value surpassed Rs 20,000 crore. This is the first time such a figure has been achieved in a single month. Compared to this, last year on the same month, the figure was around Rs 10,000. So the exports have doubled. The smartphone exports crossed Rs 20,300 crore in November, said IANS. This was led by Apple who is now scaling iPhone manufacturing in India.

Apple plans to increase production of iPhones in India and reduce production capacity in China. The Indian government has been encouraging Apple to do this by offering incentives under the PLI (Production Linked Incentive) scheme. In the fiscal FY25, Apple's production of iPhones in India touched $10 billion. Note that only seven months have passed so far. Out of this, $7 billion worth of iPhones were exported by Apple. So Apple is truly making iPhones for the global market in India.
In FY24, Apple manufactured/produced iPhones worth $14 billion in India. It is safe to assume that this figure will go higher in FY25 as still many months remain. India is becoming a preferred land for tech companies globally to manufacture as it is offering incentives and has access to cheaper labour than some of the other major markets.

A growth in exports of electronic products will encourage global brands to make more in India. Almost every major smartphone brand in the country is now making its devices in India. OnePlus, Xiaomi, Vivo, Samsung, Apple and more brands are making their flagship phones in India itself. Mobile market in India is growing at a rapid pace as consumers are looking to upgrade to premium devices.
