The long awaited news is finally here. OnePlus is testing the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update in the OnePlus 2 as the phone running latest Android iteration is spotted on popular benchmarking site, Geekbench. OnePlus has been silent over the months on the Nougat update release date for OnePlus 2.
However, it now looks like the company will roll out the update in coming weeks or maybe by the end of April. Recently, OnePlus released the Oxygen OS 3.5.8 update for the users of OnePlus 2 with March security patch fixes. Nevertheless, it is still based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
The OnePlus 2 is the 2015 flagship phone for the company that is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset. The chipset is capable of handling the graphics drivers of the Android Nougat. At the same time, OnePlus said that the OnePlus One and OnePlus X wouldn't be getting the Android Nougat update because of the Snapdragon 801 SoC.
As of now, OnePlus has rolled the Android Nougat update to its flagship phones, the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T. The initial version of Oxygen OS 4.0 came with several issues, and it took almost three months for the Chinese company to roll out a stable version of the OS for the OnePlus 3 and 3T. Both the phones have received the Android 7.1.1 Nougat based Oxygen 4.1.0 update recently that got rid of all the bugs.
That said, OnePlus might be thinking to release a stable version of the OS to OnePlus 2 rather than dealing with bugs after the public release. The Android Nougat based Oxygen OS update will bring the Google Assistant to the OnePlus 2 as well, or maybe OnePlus will roll out the Google Assistant feature in another OTA update in coming days.
