Airtel WiFi Zone Detailed: Free Data for Prepaid Subscribers, Over 500 Locations of Service and More

Airtel has launched a free Wi-Fi hotspot service in 500 locations providing its prepaid subscribers with internet access

Highlights
  • Every Airtel prepaid subscriber will get 10GB data for use in the network
  • Subscribers can check availability for a particular location on Airtel official website

In an insanely competitive environment, what is keeping the telcos strong on their turf is unique offerings and the revenue which the companies are driving from these products or services. The telecom operators are looking at new innovative offerings and services which were previously not thoroughly explored as opportunities. On the same lines, Bharti Airtel’s WiFi Zone service is a good way for Airtel subscribers to connect with Wi-Fi hotspots in over 500 locations. The service will be available for free for Airtel subscribers, wherein they will be able to connect their phones and use Wi-Fi depending on their subscribed plans. Airtel, on its website, has also listed locations, where it will be providing the service and subscribers, will also be able to check whether their area has got the new Airtel WiFi Zone or not.

Connect via My Airtel App or Through SSID

The new Airtel WiFi Zone will be available in public places like Airports, Colleges, Hospitals, Corporate Parks, Retail shops and more. However, it is worth noting that currently Airtel is allowing its prepaid subscribers to connect their phones in the Wi-Fi Zone and the service is presently unavailable for postpaid subscribers. In case you’re in an Airtel WiFi Zone, you can easily use the My Airtel app to connect to the Wi-Fi by tapping on the “My Wi-Fi” tile in your My Airtel application. After accepting permission, you will be able to browse the internet. Alternatively, you can also establish a connection via OTP and signing in to the Wi-Fi network by connecting to the open SSID named @Free Airtel Wi-Fi. On the sign in page, you can tap the “Airtel User” button to proceed with the OTP verification process.

The advantage of connecting to Airtel WiFi Zone via My Airtel app will be that; you get an easy way to keep a check on your balance data. Airtel has also noted on its website, that once you run out of this quota, you will have to disconnect the Wi-Fi and resume using your mobile data for further internet usage. In case you would like to try out the Airtel WiFi Zone service, you can head over to the Airtel official website and navigate to the “Check Wi-Fi location” tab, type in your city and location to see whether you have nearby access to the Airtel WiFi Zone.

Access to Free Data at Airtel WiFi Zone

Speaking of the data allowance which every customer is getting as part of this new Airtel offering, the telco has announced that every subscriber with the subscription to unlimited combo plan will get the 10GB worth of data credited to their account for use in Airtel WiFi Zone. Like we mentioned above, Airtel subscribers will be able to check the leftover data from their My Airtel app or Airtel Self Care website. Having said that, the data benefit will differ with the prepaid plan you recharge. Airtel’s unlimited combo plans ship with 10GB free Wi-Fi data for usage with a pre-fixed validity period and the validity of the Wi-Fi data will differ compared to your prepaid plan’s validity. Right now, Airtel WiFi Zone service is available across various parts of Delhi, Karnataka, Pune, Hyderabad locations.

OFFTOPIC::::. GUYS Aircel spectrum is not sellable in auctions. Even I had this doubt but Sunil Mittal cleared this today. Once an operator stops making spectrum payment and licensed charges and switched off network, spectrum automatically becomes null and void . Spectrum is sovereign property and cannot be soled by third party in auction. Hence dot should take back spectrum from both RCom and Aircel immediately as per Mr. Mittal. In RCom case it can be transferred to Jio based on procedure as mentioned in trading document but dot is still not taking spectrum inspite of gap in spectrum installments… Read more »

Rcom is making regular spectrum charges and even license fees. Thus you see TRAI reporting Subsciber figure with VLR. Chetan you might have forgot that few month back DOT has encashed some BG related to spectrum dues in june, then rcom made some noise and given replacment BG. Now next due is in march. Secondly Rcom is earning by existing spectrum sharing deal, so as long as DOT getting Capital and revenue payment ( read SUC/OTSC, and License fees from AGR), Dot are ok to keep licenese and spectrum with telco (read Rcom and tata) I dont know how and… Read more »

5G is still 3 years away in my opinion(no matter what government/telcos do to bring it in line with world). Let 4G settle first. Jio couldnt do what it did in start. So let 4G settle first. Then there is no device ecosystem as well. I hope device ecosystem comes from 2021 start

Rcom-jio deal—- almost done I still doubt so because Jio isnt very much interested in it as its validity coming to end in 2021. Jio is interested in buying from auctions. They are interested in 10-10-50/60 in 3/5/40 as per their engineers. Jio isnt interested in band 1 as well. So all this natak. Band 3 10Mhz is impossible for Jio to attain(till 2021) unless and until BSNL and Aircel returns the spectrum. Airtel eyeing band 5 5Mhz as well where they dont have 900Mhz. So noway Rcom-Jio deal is completed. You might see Airtel adding band 1 5Mhz more… Read more »
