Airtel Launches a New Open Market 1.5GB Daily Data Prepaid Plan for 70 Days to Take on Jio

Bharti Airtel has launched an open market prepaid plan of Rs 398 which expands the company’s tariff portfolio in all the circles. Furthermore, Airtel introduced this plan to take on Jio’s prepaid plan of Rs 349 and Rs 398. For the unaware, Reliance Jio is offering the same plan with the same benefits at Rs 349 and the company’s Rs 398 recharge gives 2GB data per day for 70 days. So Airtel’s plan is priced a bit higher, and at the same price of Airtel’s plan, Jio is giving additional 500MB data every day. That said, Airtel has a Rs 399 prepaid recharge offering 1.4GB daily data, unlimited voice calls and 100 SMS per day for 70 days and 84 days, depending on the user.

Bharti Airtel Rs 398 Prepaid Recharge: Details and Benefits

Airtel has launched this Rs 398 prepaid recharge recently and it comes with benefits of 1.5GB daily data, unlimited voice calls to any network across the country and 90 SMS per day, not 100 SMSes. Same as Reliance Jio, Airtel’s also providing unlimited local, STD and national roaming calls within India and there’s no limit on how many calls you want to make. Vodafone Idea is limiting the voice calls to 250 minutes per day, 1000 minutes per week and it allows only voice calls to 100 unique numbers during the validity period.

Also, the SMS benefit provided by Airtel is also valid across the country.

How Does the New Rs 398 Recharge Differ from Existing Rs 399 Plan?

For a long time, Airtel is offering a prepaid plan of Rs 399 which comes with a validity of 70 days and 84 days. Yes, it’s a segmented offer and if you’re lucky enough, you’ll get the Rs 399 plan for 84 days, and if you’re unlucky, it’s just 70 days. So for the 70-day validity users, the Rs 398 recharge is a better one.

The Rs 399 recharge from Airtel gives unlimited voice calls, 1.4GB of daily data and 100 SMS per day, while the Rs 398 recharge is offering 1.5GB data for all. The data benefit is clearly better on the newly launched prepaid plan.

Airtel Rs 398 Recharge vs Jio Rs 398 Prepaid Plan

On the flip side, we have the tariff leader Reliance Jio offering a similarly priced plan of Rs 398, but which telco has the upper hand? Well, it’s Reliance Jio itself. Jio’s Rs 398 prepaid plan fall under the company’s 2GB daily data tariff plans, while Airtel’s plan falls under the 1.5GB daily data plans. With its Rs 398 prepaid plan, Jio is giving 2GB data per day, unlimited voice calls without any capping and 100 text messages every day for 70 days.

The Mukesh Ambani-owned telco also has a Rs 349 prepaid plan which gives 1.5GB data per day along with unlimited voice and text messages. And it’s valid for 70 days from the date of recharge. Jio is charging Rs 49 lesser than what Airtel is charging to provide the same plan, but that’s how the industry is working right now.

Airtel has finally implemented band 40 at my location today. Speeds range from 16-48 Mbps.
Even in Peak hours getting 6-8 Mbps.

These speedtests on Jio and Airtel were done at same time with both networks on Band 40.

Netvelocity is giving Jio 4stars for 1.25 Mbps and airtel 3 stars for 40Mbps. ;p

Wait till Airtel congestion on the site settles in ,then you will get similar speeds like jio. Do you think Airtel is superior in tech than Jio

Jio will be my primary number & I dont at all think that airtel is superior, it’s just that airtel has least users in my area/telecom circle thus it is giving better speed.

I love its call quality and coverage but speeds are unusable whether in peak hours or in the morning.

So, I had planned that after plan expiry of my Jio number I’ll recharge my airtel for next 84 days.
I will come back to Jio as and when they start giving usable speeds.

People will shift to Airtel/Vodafone/Idea in next two years if Jio doesn’t add spectrum.

I hate when somebody compare speedtest of Airtel with jio. Airtel was sleeping and sucking people’s money before jio came in and now since jio has more users per site then Airtel , people start showing screenshot of jio poor speeds. what is the logic????

@Saket Logic is that Jio is not doing anything to improve the speeds. They keep giving timeline of 120 days again n again. Faje assurances without any results. Yes airtel sucked users’ blood and it is still the most unethical telecom brand. It stands nowhere near to Jio. But all this doesn’t mean that People will keep bearing pathetic speeds in the name of whatever has been done by incumbents in the past. Also, posting a screenshot of better speeds doesn’t imply that airtel is better everywhere. It just meant that it got better here only after band 40 was… Read more »

I was surprised by Airtel. I got Rs. 51 as amazon pay gift and 10GB of 3G/4G data, plus 3 GBof 4G data, all are extras for free.
I have done recharge of Rs.149 which gives daily 1GB of 4G data and unlimited calls for 28 days from My Airtel app.

Airtel just gave me 5 GB extra data for the entire 84 days coz I recharged before my current plan expired. The new plan got added up just like queuing in Jio.
