Airtel Removes Limit on Outgoing Calls to Other Networks, Outplays Jio in the Process

Bharti Airtel will no longer cap voice calling to other networks with its unlimited plans starting tomorrow. On Twitter, Airtel announced that it's removing the voice calling cap to other networks which was introduced along with the new tariff plans it launched a few days ago. For the unaware, every unlimited prepaid plan introduced by Airtel earlier this week had a limit on voice calling to other networks. For example, the Rs 149 prepaid plan from the telco comes with 1,000 non-Airtel minutes for the validity period of 28 days. But starting tomorrow, there will not be any such restriction on outgoing voice calls made to other networks. The company also stated that there wouldn't be any conditions being applied to its latest move.

Bharti Airtel Removes Voice Calling Cap to Other Networks

This move will come as a big relief to the prepaid customers of Bharti Airtel as they were massively disappointed with the latest move from the telco. Back in October this year, Reliance Jio introduced IUC Top-Up vouchers and started charging six paise per minute on voice calls made to other networks like Airtel, Vodafone Idea, BSNL and MTNL. When Jio made this move, Airtel and Vodafone Idea took to social media and started teasing the Mukesh Ambani-owned telco.

Nevertheless, both Airtel and Vodafone Idea said they would charge the customers for voice calls made to other networks and the charges were six paise per minute. Today, Airtel officially said that it's removing the FUP limit from its unlimited prepaid plans. "We heard you! And we are making the change. From tomorrow, enjoy unlimited calling to any network in India with all our unlimited plans. No conditions apply," tweeted Airtel India a few moments ago.

New Airtel Prepaid Plans Arrived With Voice Calling Cap

For example, Airtel launched new prepaid plans on December 1 alongside Vodafone Idea. Airtel hiked the prepaid tariffs by nearly 40%, but what disappointed the prepaid users was the FUP limit on non-Airtel voice calls. As mentioned above, the Rs 149 prepaid plan from the telco arrived with 1,000 minutes of FUP limit on voice calls to other networks like Reliance Jio, Vodafone Idea, BSNL and MTNL. To everyone' surprise, Airtel removed the FUP limit today.

The yearly prepaid plan from Bharti Airtel priced at Rs 2,498 also had a FUP limit of 12,000 minutes to non-Airtel mobile numbers, which disappointed several users out there in the country. All the unlimited Airtel prepaid plans had FUP limit on non-Airtel voice calls.

Vodafone Idea and Reliance Jio Only Offering Unlimited On-Net Calls

Aforesaid, Reliance Jio was the first operator to introduce voice calling limit on on-net calls which was recently followed by Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea. Back in August this year, BSNL started providing just 250 minutes of voice calls every day with unlimited prepaid plans. Even the newly All-in-One prepaid plans of Jio also has a FUP limit on non-Jio calls, so the operators are pretty much clear that they want to charge customers for outgoing voice calls made to other networks.

The new prepaid plans of Reliance Jio became effective today, whereas Airtel and Vodafone Idea prepaid users are forced to recharge the new plans from December 3 itself.

Notably, Airtel and Vodafone Idea did not start capping or charging for voice calls made to other networks via a postpaid connection.
