Yes, you heard it right. Aircel is removing the incoming calls roaming charges. With this move, Aircel will now compete with the new entrant Reliance Jio who is offering lifetime free calls irrespective of roaming charges.

Aircel customers need to dial in *121*909# to activate free incoming calls while roaming on Aircel networks. Aircel has made only the incoming roaming calls free, and the outgoing roaming calls will be charged at standard voice rates. Also, the data roaming charges will also be the same.

Anupam Vasudev, Chief Marketing Officer, Aircel, said “We understand that a lot of our customers head to their homes, travel to meet their friends or go for holidays during the onset of summers. Therefore, we are delighted to announce free incoming calls on roaming for all our customers which will help them stay seamlessly connected and speak long hours with their loved ones even on roaming. We want to ensure that our customers not only enjoy economical propositions but also the benefits of staying with us.”

As of now, Aircel used to charge a certain amount for incoming calls and to receive an incoming call while roaming; users should maintain some balance, which used to an annoying thing. However, from now, users can maintain zero balance in their account and can travel anywhere across India.

It all started with Reliance Jio offering free voice calls even on roaming. Other incumbent operators such as Airtel and Idea soon followed the new entrant and scrapped the national roaming, but are yet to make changes to make the services effective.
