Nvidia, the largest AI company in the world, has launched a Hindi language AI model. This is a lightweight AI model with 4 billion parameters aimed at helping businesses develop their own AI models. Nvidia is calling this new language model Nemotron-4-Mini-Hindi-4B. The announcement comes as the Nvidia CEO, Jensen Huang also chatted with Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director, Mukesh Ambani. For the unaware, Reliance and Nvidia are joining hands to build the AI infrastructure in India. This move from Nvidia comes as the company wants to tap into growing markets for AI tech.

"The model was pruned, distilled and trained with a combination of real-world Hindi data, synthetic Hindi data and an equal amount of English data," Nvidia said in a statement.
Nvidia confirmed that Tech Mahindra is the first company to use this AI model to develop a custom AI model called Indus 2.0 which is focused on Hindi and dozen of different dialects. India is a diverse nation with a smaller percetange of people that are fluent in speaking and understanding English. Regional languages content and chatbots have been in demand in the market and this new AI model from Nvidia will help businesses in understanding and serving their customers better.

The new model from Nvidia is different from OpenAI's ChatGPT, which is a large-language model (LLM). This AI model from Nvidia is a small-language model (SLM). It is called small language model because it is trained at on much smaller and specific datasets. These SLMs are much cheaper to train and build compared to an LLM.
Nvidia has also partnered with other Indian companies such as Tata Communications, Flipkart, and more to help them scale business in the country leveraging AI.
