Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has recently witnessed many young executives leaving the company. The state-run telecom operator needs these young executives to build the future of the company. If this continues, it can be an operational threat to BSNL's stability and growth. Focusing on this, Ravi Shil Verma, General Secretary of the All India Graduate Engineers & Telecom Officers Association (AIGETOA), in a letter to Robert J Ravi, CMD of BSNL, said the problem has arisen because of the systemic issue within BSNL HR policies.

One of the things which Verman mentioned in the letter was that many of these young executives left BSNL to join the Airports Authority of India (AAI). Verma said that the officers who have already left BSNL or are in the process to do so, have been the pillars of strength for BSNL.

AIGETOA said there are five primary reasons why these young executives are leaving BSNL:

  1. Working conditions are not good
  2. Stagnant career progression as there are unclear/unjust HR policies
  3. Non-resolution of standard pay scales of E2 for JTOs/JAOs
  4. Unfulfilled 30% Superannual benefits
  5. Lack of revised TA/DA, non-availability of sufficient medical cover and non-extension of perks and allowances.

AIGETOA said BSNL should be, "implementing a fair and timely promotion policy, revising pay and allowances, fulfilling all promised benefits, and fostering a conducive working environment that supports the professional growth of BSNL employees."

As BSNL rolls out 4G and looks to improve its profitability in the future, it will definitely need the help of the young workforce who can stay with the company for long years and build a winning culture inside. But for that, the work environment also has to improve otherwise with ample of opporunities in other companies or organisations, the young won't wait to grab a better opportunity.
