Xiaomi launched the much-awaited entry-level smartphone under its Redmi brand, the Redmi 8A, in the last week of September. However, during the last bit of the Redmi 8A launch, the company also dropped some hints about the launch of the Redmi 8, thus pointing towards the imminent launch of the phone. Now, the Redmi 8 has finally arrived today in India, and it comes with some interesting features. Today, Xiaomi, in its event, announced the launch of the Redmi 8 and detailed the features of the phone along with the pricing. Not only this but just like last time, Xiaomi has teased the launch of another smartphone which would be arriving soon. Here are more details about the newly launched Xiaomi Redmi 8.

Xiaomi Redmi 8 Features and Specifications

If you are aware of Xiaomi’s latest line-up of smartphones, then you might know that the OEM is offering its phones with the Aura design. The same is true for Redmi 8 as well. The Redmi 8 debuts with the Auro Mirror design and it comes in Sapphire Blue, Onyx Black and Ruby Red. As for the display, the phone sports a rounded waterdrop notch on the front side with minimal bezels and the panel measures 6.22-inches with a 720 x 1520 pixels resolution. On the rear side, the users will also find a fingerprint sensor along with the dual rear camera setup. The phone also comes with FM radio support and the IR blaster.

One of the most hyped features about the Redmi 8 has been the USB Type-C support. With the help of USB Type-C, the Redmi 8 will be able to support up to 18W fast charging. However, inside the box, the phone comes with a 10W bundled charger. Besides this, under the hood, the phone packs the Snapdragon 439 Octa-Core SoC, and it will come in a 4GB RAM and 64GB storage variant.

The battery is another area where the Redmi 8 was expected to come with a large unit, and that is true as the phone has debuted with a 5,000mAh pack. The phone also comes with AI battery optimisations which tweaks background apps, applies dynamic power management, smart task allocation and more to preserve battery.

When it comes to optics, the Redmi 8 features a dual rear camera setup which includes a 12MP f/1.8 sensor with 1.4-micron pixel size and dual-phase detection. The device also packs the Sony IMX363 sensor. Paired with this 12MP unit is a 2MP depth sensor which will be used while clicking portrait shots. The AI scene detection feature on the Redmi 8 will also be able to detect up to 33 scenes. The camera on the Redmi 8 also supports Google Lens. On the front, the device sports an 8MP selfie camera. Lastly, Xiaomi revealed that the Redmi 8 comes with the P2i coating making it a splash-proof device and it also features a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for protection.

Pricing and Availability

The Redmi 8 comes in a 4GB RAM and 64GB storage variant, and it has been announced to carry a price tag of Rs 8,999. As for the 3GB RAM and 32GB variant, the phone will retail for Rs 7,999. However, Xiaomi has announced that for the first 5 million units, the 4GB RAM and 64GB variant will be available for Rs 7,999. The device will be available starting October 12, after midnight on Flipkart and mi.com. At the end of the Redmi 8 launch event, Xiaomi also teased the launch of the 64MP quad-camera phone which would debut on October 16, 2019.
