Reliance Jio Expected to Live Up to the GigaFiber Hype With Triple Play Plan, IPTV Service and More

August is here and the only thing that a lot of tech enthusiasts and the general public is looking forward to is the commercial launch of Reliance Jio’s FTTH service, dubbed, Reliance Jio GigaFiber. If you know anything about the wired broadband service by Reliance Jio (if you’re not living under the rock) then you know that it’s been almost a year since the telecom operator announced it. However, now it’s high time and we know that the Mukesh Ambani led telco is going to commercially launch this service in its 42nd Annual General Meeting which is going to be held on August 12. But, the question remains, whether or not Reliance Jio will be able to live up to the hype which it has created for the FTTH service. And, will it recreate another story similar to how it did in 2016?

Reliance Jio to Make a Dent in the Broadband Market

Firstly, it is worth noting that with the launch of this new service, Reliance Jio wants to gain a monopoly over the market which remains untouched by till now. Currently, Jio already dominates the wireless broadband segment, and with GigaFiber, the telco will be on the path of becoming a massive wired broadband service provider too. The launch of this new service is also expected to be a grand one, and GigaFiber is likely to steal the limelight from a lot of other service providers.

Currently, to get a Reliance Jio GigaFiber subscription in the areas where it is available for preview testing, the subscribers are paying Rs 4,500 for the security deposit. After this amount, the monthly rental of the subscriber is waived off, and for this much, the subscribers are getting 100GB data per month, and in case the subscriber exhausts this data, Reliance Jio also ships extra free data vouchers which will push the data offering of the box to 1,100GB instead of merely 100GB.

Reliance Jio Triple Play Plan Details

While there has been no solid report about the launch of a particular plan under the banner of Reliance Jio GigaFiber, we have seen the telco testing a new kind of plan which could be its unique proposition in the Indian broadband market, and with we are talking about the – Triple Play Plan.

This plan from Reliance Jio GigaFiber will bundle DTH, broadband and a landline connection into a single bill and will avail all the three services under the same banner at the same place. The Triple Play Plan will depend on the broadband connection for facilitating the TV, thus tapping in on your 100GB data offering. Besides this, Reliance Jio will offer the Home TV setup which will likely provide 600 channels to the subscribers over the IPTV (Internet Protocol TV) to relay TV channels, unlike the conventional DTH services. Also, there isn’t any confirmed word on the pricing of this service, but it is rumoured that it will be priced at Rs 600 per month.

Another Plan Priced at Rs 2,500 Surfaces for GigaFiber

While the majority of speculations, rumours and leaks about Reliance Jio GigaFiber have been centred around the plan for which the subscribers will have to pay Rs 4,500, there have been talks about another plan which will be available to the customers, only with a security deposit of Rs 2,500. However, in this plan, the consumers will get a single band router as opposed to a double band router, and the maximum speed will be limited to 50 Mbps instead of 100 Mbps which is the case with the Rs 4,500 connection. For consumers, who would like to make do with a more economical option, the Rs 2,500 security deposit will definitely be a viable option.
