Samsung Officially Introduces Wave S8500 Smart phone with Bada OS

Samsung Electronics officially introduces WAVE (S8500) the first phone running its own software system, Bada at of Mobile World Congress 2010 held at Barcelona. With bada, Samsung is taking the TouchWiz system supports instant access to Twitter and Facebook and a Smart Unlock option which used on its touch-screen non-smart phones and making it the basis of a smart phone platform to take on Apple’s iPhone and Research In Motion’s BlackBerry.

The smart phone Samsung Wave equipped with 1GHz processor and will be available in two avatars - a 2GB and an 8GB version. The phone is quite compact for a touch screen and will be the first device to support Bluetooth 3.0 as well as to offer 802.11n Connectivity.Its touch screen interface is very similar to the iPhone. It features a highly saturated, high-res screen using organic light emitting diodes, or OLEDs.




The memory is expandable up to 32GB using microSD cards. Then, there is support for aGPS as well. At the rear of the phone is a 5 mega pixel camera that going by Samsung standards should be able to capture excellent images. The video recording part is great as well. It can capture videos at 720p resolution. It support to MPEG4, H.263, H.264, WMV, DivX, XviD formatted files, HD video playback and recording.

Samsung also makes phones based on other competing smart phone systems: Android, created by Google, and Symbian, of which Nokia is a major backer. Samsung said the phone will go on sale in April 2010 but didn't disclose what the phone would cost. To support the Wave phones, Samsung also all set to launch its on line application stores in 50 countries.

“Samsung Wave sees our platform vision become a reality. For the first time, developers have the freedom to create applications across multiple platforms, for consumption on a huge range of devices. In the Wave, our developer partners can see the ocean of opportunity that is offered by the bada mobile platform and our device technology,” said JK Shin, President and Head of Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics.
