HMD Global owned brand Nokia is one of the few smartphone makers which has been on the task of bringing timely security and Android version updates to its phones. After releasing three new phones – Nokia 2.1, Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 5.1 in May, Marketing Manager Neil Broadley announced that many Nokia phones would start getting Android P update by August. Nokia has been shipping stock Android with its phones ever since the company started selling devices in the market. Almost all the phones by Nokia are under the Android One program, which means that the devices are eligible for receiving timely Android updates and monthly security updates.
A conversation with one of the people from NokiaPower House revealed that the company might start seeding the update somewhere around August. Mukesh, who is from NokiaPower House posed a question regarding the Android P update. A Nokia Care executive, who goes by the name of Amazeballs, replied that the update would be live in the coming months. The executive said, "All other Nokia devices are expected to get Android P on sometime in August." Although there has been no news about a precise timeline for Android P rollout for Nokia devices, we now have a solid hint about when the users can expect the new Android version rollout on their phones.
All the Nokia phones, including the recently launched Nokia 2.1, Nokia 3.1 and the Nokia 5.1 will be updated to Android P when Google pushes the update in August. Even the budget segment of Nokia, including the Nokia 1 would also receive the update. Also, the higher end phones by Nokia like the Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 8 Sirocco will be the ones among many, getting the Android P update in coming months. The entire list of phones receiving the update will comprise of Nokia 1, Nokia 2, Nokia 2.1, Nokia 3, Nokia 3.1, Nokia 5, Nokia 5.1, Nokia 6, Nokia 6.1, Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 8, and Nokia 8 Sirocco. Other devices such as the Nokia X6, Nokia 7 which are limited to the Chinese market will also receive the update. Probably the Nokia 7 Plus will receive the update in August because it's already part of the Android P beta program.
Neil Broadley further informed that the phones would surely get Android P update since Google requires two consecutive updates for flagship rollouts. Going by his words, it is very probable that the recent launches in May including the Nokia 3.1 and the Nokia 5.1 will also be eligible for Android P alongwith Android Q. Not only this, but they will also be receiving timely security updates.
