State-run telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has a Rs 949 plan dubbed as BSNL Maha Plan 949, under which it's offering benefits one year. A while back, BSNL has revised this plan with better benefits, and it's now offering 157GB of data, unlimited voice calls and 100 SMS per day for a period of 157 days. The plan's actual validity is 365 days, but the benefits will be decreased after 157 days. The BSNL Maha 949 plan is not valid in North East, Jammu & Kashmir and Assam states and this plan is in-line with the BSNL Maximum 999 plan, which was also revised at the same time.
Diving into the details of the BSNL Maha 949 Plan, it offers unlimited voice calls to any network in both Home circle and national roaming except Mumbai & Delhi. Alongside the voice calling benefit, the BSNL Maha 949 Plan offers 1GB data per day and the data benefit is unlimited as the telco will be offering a speed of 40 Kbps after the completion of 1GB per day. And lastly, it also provides 100 SMS per day. The voice calls to Delhi and Mumbai circles will be charged at 60 paise per minute. These benefits are for the first 157 days.
For the rest 158-365 days, the voice calls to any network will be charged at 60 paise per minute; the local SMS will be charged at 25 paise and the STD SMS will cost the user 35 paise. That said, there won't be any data benefit during this period. Essentially, BSNL is offering benefits for 157 days only, but the plan's benefit is mentioned as 365 days.
In Kerala circle, the same BSNL Maha 949 Plan offers just 200 minutes of voice calling per day, while in other circles, the voice calling is unlimited as per the company's website. Both the local and roaming calls are limited to 200 minutes per day only in Kerala circle, which is underwhelming. Not only the BSNL Maha 949 Plan, but the BSNL Maximum 999 plan's voice calling benefit is also limited to 200 minutes per day on home and national roaming.
