Last year, Lenovo launched the Moto G5 and G5 Plus smartphones at the MWC, so naturally, all were hoping for an annual refresh of Moto G series at this year’s MWC. However, the Mobile World Congress came and went but the highly anticipated Moto G6 family never showed up at the event. Of late the Moto G6 series is once again in the news as the upcoming devices allegedly received network certification in Thailand and Indonesia. It looks as though the Moto G6 family make become official soon with the initial release in Asian markets.
We’ve already seen a number of renders of the entire Moto G6 lineup back in January. Lenovo is planning to launch three models under its next-gen G series. The G6 and G6 Plus will be the more premium lineup with the Play offering value in the chain. We’ve made informed estimates of what to expect from the upcoming models based on the past leaks and renders.
The leaked renders so far suggest minimal bezels on sides with somewhat thicker bezels on top and bottom. While the top features the front camera and sensors, the chin features the physical home screen button embedded with a fingerprint scanner.
The leaked specs so far reveal the Moto G6 will feature a 5.7-inch FHD+ (2160 x 1080) display. It is expected to be powered by a 1.8GHz Snapdragon 450 chip and have a 3,000mAh battery. In terms of cameras, the Moto G6 will feature a dual camera combo on the rear with 12MP and 5MP sensors.
Moto G6 Plus
The newest Moto G series family will be topped by Moto G6 Plus which will have the same design as the standard Moto G6 except for the larger 5.93-inch display. The display is said to support FHD+ screen resolution with 2160 x 1080 pixels. We would though love to see a quad HD resolution on the top specced device.
As for the processor, the phone will feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 630 clocked up to 2.2GHz. The CPU will be paired with three RAM variants from 3GB, 4GB to a whopping 6GB of RAM. The Plus model will also have a larger 3,200mAh battery. It is also said to come in five different colour options.
Typically, the Plus variant has always featured the best camera, but from rumoured specs, it seems to have same sensors as standard G6. The primary dual camera is rumoured as 12MP + 5MP combo, but specifically leaked specs list a 1.4?m pixel size sensor.
Moto G6 Play
The Moto G6 Play will be the most affordable model from the G6 lineup. Though the device is said to follow the same bezel-less 18:9 display design on the front, but unlike its siblings, the fingerprint scanner is moved to the rear. The scanner is located underneath the Moto logo placed right below the single sensor camera module.
The G6 Play is rumoured to ship with a 5.7-inch HD+ display sporting 1440 x 720 pixels resolution. Inside, the device will be powered by less powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor and arrive in two RAM and storage variants – 3GB RAM + 32GB storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage.
As for optics, the G6 Play is said to come with 16MP sensors on both front and back. The smartphone may also feature a massive 4,000mAh battery, given the previous model also came with a larger battery. The leaked renders also suggest the device would come with micro USB port instead of Type C port.
The Moto G6 series phone range is expected to run the latest Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. With glass back designs, we also expect to see wireless charging, but it is something which phone makers reserve for flagship grade devices. Of course, we can’t say anything for sure until they’re confirmed by Lenovo, and we’ll have to wait when the Moto G6 lineup is finally unveiled.
