While Sony promised to bring new design bezel-less smartphones in 2018, it looks like the company will retain the same Omni Balance design for a trio of its upcoming phones. As Sony prepares to update three of its low to mid-range offerings - Xperia XA, XA Ultra, and L1 - leaks are happening fast. The new Xperia XA2, Xperia XA2 Ultra, and Xperia L2, as they’ll be known, now have been shown in full glory, thanks to Venture Beat.

From the pictures, it has become painfully obvious that Sony is sticking with large bezels on top and bottom of the devices to house front camera, sensors, and the company logo. The side bezels, though, appear much thinner.

Currently, more details are known about the Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra models. The devices retain the same 16:9 displays up front instead of trendy 18:9 screens, while the fingerprint sensor has now been moved to rear below the camera modules.

The Xperia XA2 will feature a 5.2-inch FHD 1080p display, an upgrade from last year’s 5.0-inch 720p screen for XA1. Another biggest change is the transition from the MediaTek chip to Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 SoC. The memory configuration remains the same, 3GB of RAM paired with 32GB of inbuilt storage. The Xperia XA2 also gets refreshed imaging components with 21MP, 4K-capable rear camera and 7MP selfie shooter. The device will run Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.

The Xperia XA2 Ultra retains the same 6.0-inch display with FHD 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution. Under the hood, an octa-core 2.2GHz Snapdragon 630 processor is paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The XA2 Ultra, reports the same 21MP camera configuration at the rear, but there are dual 15MP selfie cams, which too are capable of 4K video capture.

As for the entry-level Xperia L2, details are scarce at this point. However, it will maintain its predecessor’s 5.2-inch, 720p display size, and resolution and likely come with the older Android Nougat when it ships.

There’s speculation that Sony will introduce these new smartphones at the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show up next week, or decide to hold it off until the MWC 2018 in February.
