Idea Cellular has revised its prepaid plans as the tariff wars intensify in Indian telecom sector. The company introduced a new Rs 309 recharge offer with internet and voice calling benefits for its customers seeking 1GB data per day. Idea’s Rs 309 plan comes with 1GB data per day, unlimited local and STD calls including free roaming outgoing as well 100 texts per day.
The plan comes with a validity period of 28 days. In addition, customers who recharge their account via my Idea app or through official website get additional 1GB data for the validity period. The additional 1GB data can be used on top of daily 1GB FUP.
The recharge plan, however, comes with certain limitations. The free calls within the plan are limited to 250 minutes per day and 1000 minutes per week. Upon exhaustion of the limits, Idea charges a tariff of 1npaisa per second. Also, subscribers cannot make calls to more than 100 unique numbers in a week. These limits are there to prevent commercial use of the Idea connections.
Currently, only Airtel and Reliance Jio are offering unlimited voice calls without any limitation. Hopefully, Idea Cellular also offer the same. Idea’s plan is the latest salvo against Jio’s Rs 309 plan that provides 1GB data per day along with unlimited calling for a period of 49 days.
Reliance Jio, in comparison, offers 49GB of bundled data doled out at 1GB per day. It also includes free voice calls for both local and STD as well national roaming calls. Reliance Jio is still ahead of Idea and Airtel when it comes to tariff plans, but it's good to see top operators giving a tough fight.
In addition, Idea rolled out a Rs 509 plan to take on Airtel Rs 509 and Jio Rs 459 plan. The telecom operator is giving a total of 84GB data for a validity of 84 days. The company also offers unlimited free calling with outgoing roaming and 100 SMS per day.
Airtel plan offers similar benefits, 1GB data per day and unlimited local, STD and national roaming for 84 days. Jio bundles 1GB 4G data per day, unlimited calling plus 100SMS per day for 84 days at Rs 459. However, Idea plan offers 3G data instead of 4G/LTE offered by Airtel and Jio.
