Idea Cellular Launches a New Rs 309 Tariff Plan With 1GB Data Per Day and Unlimited Voice Calls for 28 Days

Idea Cellular has revised its prepaid plans as the tariff wars intensify in Indian telecom sector. The company introduced a new Rs 309 recharge offer with internet and voice calling benefits for its customers seeking 1GB data per day. Idea’s Rs 309 plan comes with 1GB data per day, unlimited local and STD calls including free roaming outgoing as well 100 texts per day.

The plan comes with a validity period of 28 days. In addition, customers who recharge their account via my Idea app or through official website get additional 1GB data for the validity period. The additional 1GB data can be used on top of daily 1GB FUP.

The recharge plan, however, comes with certain limitations. The free calls within the plan are limited to 250 minutes per day and 1000 minutes per week. Upon exhaustion of the limits, Idea charges a tariff of 1npaisa per second. Also, subscribers cannot make calls to more than 100 unique numbers in a week. These limits are there to prevent commercial use of the Idea connections.

Currently, only Airtel and Reliance Jio are offering unlimited voice calls without any limitation. Hopefully, Idea Cellular also offer the same. Idea’s plan is the latest salvo against Jio’s Rs 309 plan that provides 1GB data per day along with unlimited calling for a period of 49 days.

Reliance Jio, in comparison, offers 49GB of bundled data doled out at 1GB per day. It also includes free voice calls for both local and STD as well national roaming calls. Reliance Jio is still ahead of Idea and Airtel when it comes to tariff plans, but it’s good to see top operators giving a tough fight.

In addition, Idea rolled out a Rs 509 plan to take on Airtel Rs 509 and Jio Rs 459 plan. The telecom operator is giving a total of 84GB data for a validity of 84 days. The company also offers unlimited free calling with outgoing roaming and 100 SMS per day.

Airtel plan offers similar benefits, 1GB data per day and unlimited local, STD and national roaming for 84 days. Jio bundles 1GB 4G data per day, unlimited calling plus 100SMS per day for 84 days at Rs 459. However, Idea plan offers 3G data instead of 4G/LTE offered by Airtel and Jio.

Idea vpdafone merging is like making Salem airport (Tamilnadu) to operation for all flights. Only build up. No actual action taken.

Idea Cellular nuggets: – NOT shutting down 3G anytime soon, nor has expansion stopped. – Capex will be focused on expanding 4G, however, as single RAN solutions generally come with equipment capable of both 3G and 4G network deployment, at least one carrier will be retained on 3G wherever Idea has 3G spectrum. This means 3G and 4G will undergo simultaneous expansion. – 2G expansion will be temporarily suspended, as Vodafone merger is expected to bring 60000 overlapping sites which can then be used for 2G expansion if necessary. In the meantime, Idea expects to sign spectrum sharing and ICR… Read more »

Kaushik, TRAI will be sitting on 24th December for a final call on New spectrum Cap limits, & i believe Voda Idea are desperately waiting for that happens for the fast merger process.
Voda & Idea will be having more Liberalised spectrum than Airtel & Jio combined.
Future for them is very high on the cards. But we have to see if they’ll deploy 4G aggressively after that or not.

After finishing spectrum, network consolidation, they may be merged.

I didn’t get this? Can you elaborate!!!!! Where do you see Idea and Vodafone or merged entity in 2020?

Means after merger is allowed by all courts and DoT, NCLT etc. MergedCo will be formed and announced but initially both brands will operate separately. This will continue till they finally combine their spectrum and network at technical level and all employees are integrated, redundant ones removed etc. Afterwards they will take a decision on making ONE brand but that will take long time. As far as customers are concerned, we will see both Vodafone and Idea as separate in the market though they will be operated by same company. Expect this to continue till April to June 2019.

NOT shutting down 3G anytime soon, nor has expansion stopped.

Are you sure about this?

there is no point in blocking spectrum for 3g.

Same 2100Mhz band 1 or 900MHZ , when used with VOLTE, give better speed, capacity utilization , improved experince and even make 1 step closer to 5g and more importantly without loosing VOICE Customer with HD voice.

Yes, idea will keep at least one 5Mhz chunk reserved for 3G as per their management statements.
