Qualcomm, MediaTek Announces Optimised SoCs For Android Oreo (Go Edition)

Just a couple of days ago at the Google for India event in New Delhi, Google announced the launch if Android Oreo (Go Edition). And today, Qualcomm and MediaTek, two largest chipset makers in the world right now have announced their support for the newly introduced lighter Android operating system.

Taiwanese semiconductor company, MediaTek in a press release on Thursday announced support for Android Oreo (Go edition). The company said it is already in collaboration with Google to deliver support for smartphones running less powerful processors. MediaTek will debut MT6739, MT6737, and MT6580 entry-level chipsets optimised to run Android Oreo Go edition.

MediaTek further stated that Google was directly involved to ensure that “Android Oreo Go edition works well on its line of processors, enabling a faster time-to-market mechanism for device manufacturers, and ensuring a quality Android smartphone experience that is both secure and affordable for devices with 512MB to 1GB of memory.”

The chipmaker also revealed that Android Oreo Go smartphones powered by MediaTek would launch as early as Q1, 2018. These phones will be available in India, the Middle East and Africa, Latin America, and South East Asia markets with India being the focus country.

Before MediaTek, the San Diego-based Qualcomm announced that it is working with Google to deliver an optimal experience on smartphones with 1GB or less RAM with the Android Oreo Go Edition.

Qualcomm said that its mid-range and entry-level chipsets would be made ready to device manufacturers right after the Android 8.1 Oreo release.
