Computex 2017: Samsung Brings S-Pen Support for Notebook Line With the Notebook 9 Pro

Samsung, at the ongoing Computex event in Taipei, has announced its next-generation Notebook- the Samsung Notebook 9 Pro. The 9 Pro is an upgrade to the previous Notebook 9 series of laptops, but it differs a lot from the older Notebook 9 line.

For the first time, Samsung is bundling an S-Pen with a Notebook, and there's a reason for doing that. The Notebook 9 Pro now has a 360-degree hinge, same as Lenovo's Yoga laptops. This essentially means that you can use the Notebook 9 Pro as a laptop or a tablet. The S-Pen is embedded at the bottom right of the Notebook, and it can be detached easily.

Samsung says that the S-Pen includes 4,000 levels of pressure and it also comes bundled with Samsung's Air Command tool for drawing or editing documents on-the-go. The all new Notebook 9 Pro comes in two models- one with a 13.3-inch display and the other one with a 15.7-inch display. Both the models feature Intel Core i7 chips, but the amount of RAM separates them.

The 13.3-inch model comes with 8GB of RAM and the 15.6-inch variant ships with 16GB of RAM. There's 256GB Solid State Drive (SSD) in both the models. Samsung has also added a Windows Hello camera in both the variants.

The South Korean giant has finally used a USB Type-C port for charging. The Notebook 9 Pro also comes with two standard USB ports, an HDMI port, and an eMMC port for using a microSD card. The Windows Hello camera helps users to log into the system via facial recognition. That's a little handy feature to have around.

Notebook 9 Pro

The disappointment with the announcement is that Samsung did not give any pricing or shipping date/month, which the company never did before. Nevertheless, Samsung may release them to market by the end of this year. With the Notebook 9 Pro, Samsung is going after the Lenovo Yoga's line and HP' Spectre range of laptops. And the addition of S-Pen is an icing on the cake.
