If there’s one thing we would all agree unanimously, it has to be the poor battery life that smartphones offer these days. With the proliferation of technology, smartphones, as a package, have evolved a lot. But, battery life had never been given the kind of attention it is supposed to get.

Sure, in the recent past, a few smartphone vendors have been hugely concentrating on smartphones that offer a great battery life. But as a whole, not many of them managed to impress us or anyone, for that matter.
Even worse is the fact that in the process of making devices slimmer, even a few flagship smartphone makers have been compromising on battery life. This very act makes us wonder what good is a phone that’s worth more than Rs. 50,000 and couldn’t last a single day without charging it again?
But again, on second thoughts, not many of us are comfortable carrying chunky handsets for they are not pretty much comfy and may not look good. Aesthetics matter, right?
So, does that mean there’s no solution to tackle this problem?
Well, thankfully there’s one. It may not be a perfect solution, but it does solve the problem to some extent.
If you are wondering what we are up to, we are talking fast charging tech here. For those who are not aware, this tech allows the battery on smartphones to charge faster by increasing the charging power. As a result, one could expect around 50 percent of charge in 30 minutes (may vary from company to company).
Currently, a good number of companies offer this tech with different monikers. The most noticeable ones among them, though are the Qualcomm’s Quick Charge, Oppo’s VOOC Flash Charge, and OnePlus’s Dash Charge technology. Technically, Dash Charge is a rebranded version of Oppo’s VOOC Flash Charge technology given the fact that OnePlus is a subsidiary of Oppo.
So, we will majorly focus on Quick Charge and Dash Charge technologies which exactly brings us to the question — which one among the two is better?
Well, we’ve been using both the technologies for quite some time now, and we honestly feel that the Dash Charge tech is way ahead in the league for two main reasons.
Firstly, the Dash Charge tech is safer in comparison to the Quick Charge tech. This doesn’t necessarily mean that the latter is danger, though. The reason being, instead of using a particular circuit inside the phone itself like Qualcomm, the Dash Charge tech has the controlling circuitry in the wall charger itself. As a result, the phones don’t heat up like the ones with the Quick Charge tech do. Which means, there are fewer chances for the battery to damage, or explode in the worst case.
Secondly, it’s faster than Quick Charge. OnePlus claims to offer 100 percent charging (from zero) in and around an hour. Interestingly enough, our OnePlus 3 did manage to reach 100 percent charge around 70 minutes. On top of that, it didn’t heat up while charging as opposed to the other smartphones.
However, for Dash Charge to work, you’ll have to carry the proprietary cable and charger. On the other hand, people can use any Quick Charge certified cables to make use of this tech.
All in all, the Dash Charge is the one we would bet our money on, but it may soon change since the Quick Charge 4.0 had been already announced.
