Amid high-level exits across functions, Reliance Jio Infocomm has reportedly given up to 15% salary hikes to its top performers. The move is aimed at retaining best talent at a time when the Mukesh Ambani-led telco’s pan-India 4G operations is gathering momentum on the back of free “Welcome Offer.

According to an Economic Times report, the 4G entrant has increased salaries of the top performers among its junior and middle level managers by 15%. The telco has also given a 10% hike to DGM and above level employees.
“The hikes range is consistent in all key functions — networks/networks IT & support, sales and marketing, customer care, projects, regulatory, and HR,” a source was quoted as saying by the report.

The telecom operator has announced annual increments in the range of 7%-15% for junior and middle level employees and 5%-10% for seniors. The annual increments were announced much later than last fiscal when it handed out the salary increases in April-May.

Jio’s salaries hikes are considered better than average annual increments in the telecom sector that were, typically, in the 7%-12% range in this fiscal. However, HR consultants reckon that these hikes are unlikely to curtail attrition across levels.

Reliance Jio had kicked off commercial service on September 5 with the launch of free voice and data services till December 31, 2016.

The telco has lately seen some high-profile exits. Last month, Pradeep Shrivastava, Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of Jio, stepped down from the position after a stint of just over a year. The company’s chief digital marketing officer, senior vice president digital channels, Martijn de Jong already left to join Aegon India as chief marketing and digital officer.
