Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (RJio) and the state-owned service provider Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has signed an intra-circle roaming agreement for 2G and 4G services. This will enable the BSNL customers to use RJio’s 4G services in roaming and RJio subscribers to use BSNL’s 2G network for making voice calls.

Commenting on the new partnership, BSNL Chairman and Managing Director Anupam Shrivastava said, “We are focused on creating value for our customers through expanding our outreach as well as strengthening our network capabilities, especially in terms of quality. This agreement should benefit both our customers and create a strong, seamless support for both the networks” reports PTI.

"We are upgrading our network which should take three months. After this BSNL customer having 4G handset will be able to use Jio's 4G service on the rate that both the companies will finalize soon," Shrivastava added.

BSNL is the fifth largest operator in India with a wide rural coverage of around 1.14 lakh sites. Besides RJio, Bharti Airtel, Aircel, and Vodafone India have also tied up with BSNL for 2G ICR services.

“This agreement is a continuation of our efforts to forge strategic partnerships with other telecom service providers to build a formidable nationwide presence. While we are creating a new-age network of our own, such agreements help our customers to stay connected while roaming,” said Sanjay Mashruwala, Managing Director, Reliance Jio.
