Xiaomi Mi 5 breaks into two pieces in a bend test

In a durability test conducted by JerryRigEverything, a You Tube gadget tester, Xiaomi’s newest flagship smartphone Mi 5 lost its robustness and broke into two pieces.

However, the device performed quite well in the scratch tests, thanks to the Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Even the fingerprint scanner-embedded home button and the camera lens are well protected and easily survived the scratch test.

The video that showcased the test also said that Xiaomi Mi 5 can survive little burns. Although the display turned black at the point-of-contact, Mi 5 recovered as if all is well. A reason for the flagship smartphone to break into pieces would be its aluminum frame, which would have probably used to reduce the weight of the device as well as to make it cheaper.

In the earlier tests performed on JerryRigEverything, the HTC M9 and the Nexus 6P were the two smartphones which did not survive the break test. Now, Xiaomi Mi 5 too joined the league.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 went on sale in India earlier this month. Priced at Rs. 24,999, it features a 5.15-inch 1080p display, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chipset, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB internal memory. It also features a 16 MP rear camera with 4K video recording capabilities, four-axis OIS technology, 4 MP front-facing camera, 3,000mAh battery, and a fingerprint scanner. There is 4G support for the phone. It runs on Android Marshmallow 6.0 wrapped under MIUI 7.
