The GSM mobile subscribers base rose by 63 lakh in October to 73.94 crore in the country, with top telco Bharti Airtel adding the highest 27.67 lakh users during the period.
According to Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), Vodafone added 16 lakh subscribers, the second highest number of users, taking its total base to 189 million at the end of the month. Country’s third-largest operator Idea Cellular added 7.2 lakh subscribers in October, with its total user base at 167 million users.
Meanwhile, the UP (East) circle registered the largest number of GSM subscribers at 65.14 million and the total additions during the month for the circle were 4.1 lakh.
Aircel added 6.12 lakh subscribers to total 8.46 crore and Telenor added 9.32 lakh to 4.87 crore user base in October.
MTNL added 6,342 subscribers, taking its base to 35.18 lakh, Videocon Telecom lost 51,004 subscribers and its base got reduced to 78.49 lakh in October.
The GSM lobby group, however, did not record the figures for BSNL, Reliance Communications and Tata Teleservices.
COAI was set up in 1995 as a registered, non-governmental society and it represents all the GSM telcos. It works for the the advancement of modern communication through the establishment of world-class mobile infrastructure, products and services.
